Etron Technology has announced that its USB 3.0 host controller chip, the EJ168, has received a Windows Logo certificate from Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL).

In addition to Etron, other IC design houses including ASMedia Technology and VIA Labs have all ventured into the USB 3.0 controller chip market, with industry watchers expecting the penetration rate of USB 3.0 chips in the PC segment to reach 20-30% in 2011.

In other news Etron also announced that its net sales for September 2010 were NT$401 million (US$12.96 million), down 33.4% sequentially and 43.7% on year. Accumulated revenues from January through September of 2010 totaled NT$ 6.814 billion, growing 38.7% from the same period of last year.

The September revenues decreased because of weak demand from the global memory market, customers’ requests for lowering product prices, and impacts from the long holidays in Asia, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival and China’s National Day holidays, the company said in a press release.
